Hello again. It’s been too long since my last post, and this extended absence was not on purpose. You may have noticed The Beauty Girl has a new look. Unfortunately, I never got to unveil the redesign I worked so hard on or share my excitement over the birth of our baby girl Hazel who arrived on June 20th (I will fill you in on her traumatic birth story later). Only 3 months into our family basking in the bliss of having a newborn, our world was turned upside down when my oldest son Rex (6) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Diabetes is one big gray area with no concrete answers, so if you’re a problem solver, this disease will beat you up to the core. Every day is a crap shoot as we are tasked with making guesstimations and hoping for the best. It’s learning a foreign language that you wish you never had to know. Navigating this unpredictable, emotional, confusing world that is Diabetes has taken all of our energy and focus. As we mourn our lives pre Diabetes and our family is adjusting to our new reality, we are slowly figuring out how to move forward. For now, I am taking baby steps, and surfacing again on the blog is one of them.
Amidst all of the chaos, our daughter Hazel has been our inspiration. She has given us all reason to celebrate, and I’m happy to finally introduce you to Hazel Pearl Dee Kaplan.
