Are you one of the 32 million people who has eczema? My two-year-old Rex is. He has it on his arms. If you’re wondering what this skin condition is, dermatologist Dr. Kenneth Beer explains it like this: “Eczema is an immune reaction that targets the skin. This chronic skin disorder is produced by inflammation that causes skin to become itchy, red, and dry—even cracked and leathery. Eczema can be triggered by stress, heat and sweat, sudden changes in temperature, extreme cold/dry climates, heredity, airborne/food allergens or irritants. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema and the two terms are often used interchangeably.”
Being that October is National Eczema Awareness Month, I asked Dr. Beer a few more questions about this skin condition (see below). Plus, I’m giving 2 people the chance to win the entire Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Collection.
I keep these soaps in our powder room. I found the "Pearl" soap in the lobby of the Ace Hotel in NYC. It represents my maiden name, which is what I use professionally. I received a dozen of "The Kaplans" bars, which is my married name, as a housewarming gift.
A product of two writers (or so we like to think), Jasper's uncommon goods onesie made for a thoughtful gift.
I love my summer manicure using these Color Club polishes exclusive to Birchbox.
My 22-month-old Rex went juicing and driving.
First sighting of our homegrown tomatoes! It's really not hard. All you need is an Earthbox.
I’m always on the lookout for cute, comfy clothes for Rex. Teres Kids is a brand that fits the bill. I’d never heard of the line, and when they sent me some styles for Rex, I wished I’d known about them sooner.
Last month we had our 4th annual Best Beauty Buys for Moms Event with Bump Club and Beyond, presented by Clarins, Phyto and Bath & Body Works. Moms and moms-to-be gathered at the Argent Restaurant for a night of beauty treatments (manicures, brow waxes, chair massages and micro-derm facials) powered by PrettyQuick, food, mocktails and cocktails, a presentation of my spring beauty must-haves, raffles prizes and gift bags galore. Everyone left with more than $200 worth of beauty products! To name a few: Cocktail Fragrance Bubble Bath, Jouer and Cargo lip glosses, Aveeno baby products, B. Kamins skincare, Rosebud lip salve, Bath & Body Works fragrance, Phyto hair de-frizzer, GoSwype antibacterial wipes, Clarins body oil and stretch mark control cream and the list goes on. Here are some photo highlights and a slideshow, courtesy of Tk Photography, showcasing the evening’s festivities.
