We all have defining moments during our teenage years. For me, one I’ll never forget is when I saw Romeo and Juliet on the big screen. Not the classic, but the re-make with Leo DiCaprio. His golden locks, piercing blue eyes and pretty boy charm stole my heart…so much so that I cried from his overwhelming beauty in the movie. Leo became my dream guy. Over the past couple of decades, however, my infatuation with this leading man cooled. Tabloid reports about some of his antics in his personal life turned me off. Then, last week I saw The Great Gatsby. Leo was as enchanting as ever, and once again I became hooked. Not only was Leo radiant, the entire movie was infatuating. The glitz and glamour of the roaring ’20s erupted on screen, and the decadent hair, makeup and fashion left me feeling inspired. If you, like me, are in the mood to dig through your grandma’s vintage wardrobe, here are some of our favorite ways to modernize Daisy Buchanan’s iconic style.
Drop it Low The drop waist dress is completely characteristic of the time period. Go casual for daytime with a short frock in a jersey material paired with sandals. Or, jazz it up at night with slinky silk, intricate beading, and stilettos.
As the Fall 2013 fashion shows have wrapped up, we are beginning to unearth our warm weather wardrobes. This season up your beauty game with seductive eyes, bold lips and funky hair.
EYES: smoldering shadow and liner
Forget low key eye makeup and go for the glam, courtesy of Pat McGrath and the Gucci runway. Trace outer rims with dark brown liner and apply matching shadow on the lids. For a little more dimension add a shimmery cream highlighter to the inner corner and brow bone. Bring it home with sky high lashes! Read More
I’m honored to have been featured in The New York Times. I was included in a story about the trend of personal beauty shoppers in last week’s Thursday Styles section. Here’s a snippet!
The Spring 2013 fashion shows may be coming to close, but we’re just beginning to pull out our fall wardrobes (hello, leather weather). Stash your pastel eyeshadows, coral bullets, and think extremes for this fall’s beauty palette.
EYES: black and blue, geometric shapes
From the clothes to the makeup, the IT color combo for fall is black and blue. For makeup, the best way to wear this trend is to focus on your eyes. At Giorgio Armani and Anna Sui we saw a unique take on the classic cat eye using these shades. Skip shadow and go straight to liner, which should be drawn in a more geometric shape. To make this eye look wearable for everyday, make a “v” shape by lining half of your top lash line and the outer fourth of your bottom lashline. Define and thicken the “v” in the outside corner. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner and Lancome Le Crayon Khol are solid picks.
LIPS: bold or bareRead More
If you have split ends or dry skin or nails you should know about Argan oil. It comes from the plant oil produced from the kernels of the argan tree in Morocco. What you really need to know is that it’s a star moisturizer. You can buy it pure or you can find it as a key ingredient in many creams and conditioners. Drugstore and prestige brands are coming out with their own versions. Here are a couple worth knowing about:
To use, apply a few drops on your face, split ends, cuticles, cuts and scrapes, whatever needs a little extra TLC. We put a few droplets of the do-everything healers into our creams and moisturizers to give ‘em a little boost. The oils are organic and chemical-free—a skincare staple particularly for those who use strictly natural cosmetics.
I had so much fun this morning at Windy City Live talking spring beauty trends and how to get them with products for all under $10. Check it out!
