Buzz Word: Beauty Balm

It seems every beauty company got the same memo — formulate a BB cream. The “BB” stands for beauty balm (some also say blemish balm). These wonder creams have been popular in Asia for years and now they’re all the rage in the states. The main idea behind them is that they give light, even coverage like a tinted moisturizer, but they’re also a skincare product packed with hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and sunscreen. Dr. Jart, which I’ve talked about before, was first out of the gate, and it’s still one of my favorites. MAC, Estee Lauder, Clinique, and Garnier have also come out with their own versions. I definitely think they’re worth the try. And now you’ve gotten the memo, too.

Iris Apfel Brings Her Spunk To MAC

Jewelry designer, interior designer, fashion icon extraordinaire, Iris Apfel, has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to create a makeup collection inspired by her eccentric style. The spunky lip, eye and nail colors ooze Apfel—especially the hot pink, orange and red lipsticks. There’s a clear emphasis on color (think teal eye shadow and magenta nail lacquer) but there are a few nudes laced throughout to balance the quirky colors. At first glance the collection looks like it’d be suited for a younger crowd, but hey—the ninety year old is painting on the fun and we think she looks damn good doing it. posted by Cody

Between the flashes, gowns and aisles, a wedding night is like the Oscars, and you wouldn’t dare show up to that gala unprepared. I rode my own wedding wave a mere seven months ago when I got married. Being that makeup is my thing, there was no way in hell my face wasn’t going to last from my grand entrance to my night cap. With the help of Ethian Hugo, the incredibly talented makeup artist who has worked with taste makers such as Carolina Herrera, we created a classic bridal look that I loved. These are the tips and products he used to create my look that I can personally say kept me looking like a fresh-faced bride from the first pictures at 2pm to the last dance at 2am. Read More
