Alx Galasinao is a longtime makeup artist at ABC 7 in Chicago. I first met Alx when I was a college intern for the entertainment news reporter at ABC 7. Now, years later, I was back at the studio for my tv segment on must have spring products and Alx was there to touch up my makeup before going on air. Read More
When I was a tween, I was clueless about my skin. My mom never took me to the dermatologist or showed me the proper way to treat a zit. Read More
I just got this Ann Taylor sequin skirt, and it’s become my favorite piece in my closet. It’s part of the wedding collection and can easily be dressed up for a fancy affair. I love that I can also wear it on a random Wednesday afternoon in the city. I like to style it casually pairing with a simple blouse (shown here) or with my Madewell denim shirt. The first time I wore it, I got a gazillion compliments, so if you’re looking for an ego boost, this is the skirt for you.
It whooshes when you walk and will have people stopping you to tell you how fab it is.
This week I attended an intimate luncheon with Chicago-based plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Dayan at the Ritz Carlton. The topic of conversation — beauty. Specifically, he shared details from his new book Subliminally Exposed, which has already become a New York Times Bestseller.
Some of what he talked about was funny and interesting, but many truths about how our psyche works when it comes to this subject aren’t so pretty.
When I asked why he wrote this in the first place he said that having treated over 40,000 women, he started to recognize that the desire to alter one’s appearance didn’t stem from simply wanting to look better, but rather, wanting to feel better. This realization led to 4 1/2 years of research on this topic that ultimately turned into his book.
We covered everything from plastic surgery to penis size! Some of the study results were eye-opening. Here are some of my biggest takeaways.
Here at The Beauty Girl, we sure do love a glitter manicure. A little extra shimmer and shine on your nails can really go a long way. Especially if you’re trying to spice up your regular manicure but are exhausted at the mere thought of painting a detailed masterpiece onto your tiniest finger. So for this glitter mani, we’re giving you a break! Stash away your polish because all you need is a top coat, and arts & crafts fine-grain glitter. Follow these three simple steps as demonstrated by former intern Elizabeth and your tips will be turning heads, no doubt.
What you need
To create this mani all you need is a top coat, fine grained arts & crafts glitter, and a little brush to dust away the particles from around your nails. I used an old lip stain brush because the bristles are firmer, but a mini painting brush would work just as well too.
It took an afternoon of hair, makeup and a shopping spree at Ann Taylor to create my final look. The whole experience was documented should you want to do it yourself.
I started the beautification at Anthony Cristiano Salon located in the Trump Hotel.
First was hair. I wanted an effortless style with a bit of edge for daytime. We decided a messy bun was the perfect fit.
The stylist spritzed in Klorane Dry Shampoo to give my locks more oomph and hold. Then she pulled my hair into a pony and organically wrapped the tail into a bun securing with bobbi pins.
Next was makeup. To achieve “daytime chic” we went for fresh skin, light lips and defined but not heavy lashes. We did cheat a little adding a few individual lashes for the photos.
Here’s a list of the products used to create the look:
Benefit They’re Real mascara; IT Cosmetics Brow Pencil; By Terry Light Perfecting Foundation Brush; Pur Minerals CC Cream; Benefit Fakeup; Nuxe Oil; By Terry Baume de Rose; Naked Princess Gloss. P.S. These are some of the brands in the latest Birchbox.
The final stop was Ann Taylor. I perused the racks looking for the perfect outfit. I ended up pairing this high-low skirt with the leopard print cap sleeve knit tee. The tortoise necklace added brightness and texture and the cage black booties kept the vibe cool and youthful
Here’s the final look!
