The Beauty Girl’s Friday Five

Happy Friday! To celebrate, here are photographs documenting our favorite things from this past week. Enjoy :)

1. My husband and I love the colors in this New Yorker cover and the illustration, which reminds us of us. So, we decided to frame it and hang in our bedroom. Never underestimate the potential of a magazine cover.

2. Monday morning…downtown Chicago…what a city.

3. May Books Day Planner: it keeps life organized behind the absolute cutest cover.

4. Living in a house with two son’s, baby blue has become a theme color. This baby blue Kate Spade satchel is the ideal spring accessory.

5. We love the new Victoria’s Secret PINK Racerback Bralette. It comes in popping hues with super cute lace detailing and will look cute under tanks this summer.

What are some of your favorite things from the week?

Great Gatsby-Inspired Fashion and Beauty

We all have defining moments during our teenage years. For me, one I’ll never forget is when I saw Romeo and Juliet on the big screen. Not the classic, but the re-make with Leo DiCaprio. His golden locks, piercing blue eyes and pretty boy charm stole my heart…so much so that I cried from his overwhelming beauty in the movie. Leo became my dream guy. Over the past couple of decades, however, my infatuation with this leading man cooled. Tabloid reports about some of his antics in his personal life turned me off. Then, last week I saw The Great Gatsby. Leo was as enchanting as ever, and once again I became hooked.  Not only was Leo radiant, the entire movie was infatuating. The glitz and glamour of the roaring ’20s erupted on screen, and the decadent hair, makeup and fashion left me feeling inspired. If you, like me, are in the mood to dig through your grandma’s vintage wardrobe, here are some of our favorite ways to modernize Daisy Buchanan’s iconic style.

Drop it Low
The drop waist dress is completely characteristic of the time period. Go casual for daytime with a short frock in a jersey material paired with sandals. Or, jazz it up at night with slinky silk, intricate beading, and stilettos.

EYES: smoldering shadow and liner  Forget low key eye makeup and go for the glam, courtesy of Pat McGrath and the Gucci runway. Trace outer rims with dark brown liner and apply matching shadow on the lids. For a little more dimension add a shimmery cream highlighter to the inner corner and brow bone. Bring it home with sky high lashes! Read More

Shades For The Season

Bold Patterns

Picture 1 of 5

We're not suggesting you wear these striped shades as shown. This look is as outrageous as Elton John. But, pair with a solid white or black ensemble and these Dolce & Gabbana frames make the outfit.

6 Metallic Eye Looks for Spring 2013

I hope you’re into heavy metal because the spring 2013 runways were on fire with ultraluxe shades of gold, platinum, silver, and bronze. Metallic makeup does not necessarily equate to glittery or super shimmery, and, when done right, can actually add a cool punch of color to your day or night look. Here’s how this trend is taking over this season.

Vera Wang Runway

Makeup artist, Pieroni applied a rusty gold powder (a mix of brown, bronze, and gold) to the eyes with a sponge-tip applicator. She swiped the blend of powders on the lids up to the brow bone, piling on more bronze close to the lash line for added intensity.

Men in Tights: Meggings, A New Men’s Fashion Trend?

Sharing a sweatshirt or oversized t-shirt with your boyfriend or hubby is fun and all, but leggings? Ladies, hold onto your favorite pants substitute because meggings (leggings for men) are hitting the streets and runways as one of the biggest new trends of the season. Squeezed into by celebrities like Justin Bieber, Russell Brand, and Lenny Kravitz, meggings appear to be making their mark on the Hollywood set. But what about real guys giving tight pants a try? Apparently labels like Urban Outfitters and American Apparel think they should, because both stores are offering the look this season. And these bottoms aren’t reserved just for adult men. Check out this version created for baby boys by designer Little Titans. I have to say, these little ones do look adorable in their leg-wear! Only time will tell whether this fashion statement is either a ‘do’ or a major ‘don’t’ but personally, unless you’re taking the stage as a ballet dancer, acting in a Shakespearian play, or under two years old, just say no to tights, guys.

Would you date a guy who wears meggings?

Combat Cellulite with Wrangler’s New Jeans?

We’ve answered the question before, “Are these products too good to be true?” Now it begs to be asked again with Wrangler’s new ‘Spa Jean,’ which claims to fight cellulite! The denim brand’s new Spa line is designed with moisturizing ingredients like Olive Extract and Aloe Vera. Included in the collection is the much talked about Smooth Leg Jean that claims to fight cellulite with “caffeine, retinol and algae” packed right into the denim itself! This style was “clinically tested by the Institut Adriant in France, where after four weeks of wearing the jeans for eight hours a day, five days a week over six weeks, 69 per cent of the panel claimed that the appearance of their thighs had improved.” At $136 a pair, the style will be available on ASOS.com starting January 28. Truth be told, even if some cellulite lingers after wearing these jeans, if a little added moisturizer can make wiggling into my favorite pair of denim that much easier, I am not complaining.

Would you buy these jeans?
