A Rare Skincare Find: Russie Blanche

Once reserved for guests of exclusive French hotels, the luxurious skincare line Russie Blanche has come stateside. The only way to get your hands on the products is to visit the Blue Harmony spa at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort or to purchase off their website (blueharmonyorlando.com). Lucky for me, I was sent their best sellers to try. The line marries the traditions of Russian massage and aromatherapy with French skincare practices, and the key ingredients are siberian golden root, touted for fighting stress, siberian ginseng, known for its ability to survive in cold climates and essential oils. The kicker is that none of the products contain bad stuff like parabens, artificial colors, etc. Read More

Miracle Whip Face Mask

There are books devoted to beauty recipes you can make from kitchen ingredients. Avocado and olive oil are some of the most popular. I’m not a regular do-it-yourself-er kind of girl, but my friend Ann, who knows her stuff when it comes to at-home masks, told me about one facial mask recipe, and it’s worth sharing. Read More

Road Test: I Got My Lashes Tinted

You may remember when I got my eyebrows tinted for the first time. No one could tell I did it, and the extra hint of color made a big difference. I didn’t need to fill in my brow, and it enhanced my blue eyes even when I wasn’t wearing makeup. Well, I was back at Sine Qua Non salon (this time for a haircut) and decided to get my lashes tinted on a whim. I always wondered and finally did it. Read More

Buzz Word: Dermaplaning. Have You Tried This Yet?

Have you heard of dermaplaning? More and more peeps have been asking me about it, so here’s the deal. It’s not terribly new. It was quietly introduced in the ’90s when med spas were getting hot. Dermaplaning is a technique that exfoliates the skin and removes peach fuzz on your face. Read More

A Skincare Line That Makes You Look “Airbrushed”…That’s What He Said

“Oh my god, your skin looks airbrushed. Every pixel is perfect. I’ve never seen your skin look like this,” said my husband. Yes, that was my greeting when I walked in the door, makeup-less, after a facial. Sold!  Read More

Ever Try A Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels get a bad rap. Blame Samantha Jones. Sometimes in our obsessive efforts to have the skin of a, well, pre-pubescent girl, we get sucked in to impulse treatments and procedures without proper research. Peels can reveal a hidden glow when done by an experienced doctor or professional. Samantha’s was a scabby disaster — a far cry from her typical post-orgasm radiance. Read More

To Botox or Not To Botox…

That is the question. And I get asked it a lot. There’s no right answer except what’s best for you. If you’re going to get it, here’s my one piece of advice: go to a dermatologist known for giving natural-looking results. The goal isn’t to make you look 10 years younger. It’s to make you look instantly refreshed in a way that your anti-aging moisturizer can’t. You should still look your age, and you should still be able to move your eyebrows. The below “before” and “after” are untouched photos taken of my friend (she’s letting me use these images of her sans makeup, so I promised I wouldn’t say her name), a thirty-something who got Botox for her first time to minimize the appearance of her crows feet (crinkles around the eyes). Can you see the difference? Would you try Botox?

Hot Winter Skin Saviors

In the dead of the snowy, bitter winter, my skin is sometimes nothing short of, well, dead. I wish I could snap my finger and be transported to my favorite spa—a girl can dream. In the meantime, I’ve found some products that not only save parched skin, but also bring home some spa coziness. My typically wind-burned cheeks have stayed comfortable with a skincare line called Vitaphenol. The cleanser and daily moisturizer contain Coenzyme Q10, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E. The cleanser takes off makeup without stripping skin and the moisturizer has a nice, light, fast-absorbing consistency. I love that the products are anti-aging and moisturizing without being heavy duty, gloppy creams. Flaky, scaly limbs are not to be ignored. Fiery, itchy legs have actually kept me awake in the middle of the night and the only cure is more Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil. Made with hazelnut oil and rosemary, geranium and mint extracts, it’s kind of like a spa in a jar. I coat myself in the stuff while I’m still damp from the shower and I pat the excess onto my face—keeps me dewy! Only thing better than a fab body oil: a warm body oil in candle form. The Earthly Body 3-in-1 Massage Candle is made with massage oil rather than wax. You light the wick, enjoy it as a candle for about twenty mintues or so, and then you can pour the warm oil onto your skin and use it as a moisturizer. How cool is that! I’ve been using the “Skinny Dip” scent, which is vanilla-y and musky, but there are several other scents to choose from (might I say a fabulous holiday gift?). (Posted by Cody)
