Giveaway: Clarins Double Serum

Having an 18 month old and another on the way (I’m due May 11th!), I feel like I’ve been pregnant for the past two years. That said, I’m very selective with what I put on my skin. Clarins is a brand that I feel confident using because they’re devoted to working with plant extracts to create effective formulas. One of my new favorites is their Double Serum. It just launched in February but is 27 years in the making. Researchers had 200 different plant extracts at their fingertips and chose the 20 most powerful that work together to hydrate, protect and strengthen the skin.  Green banana, burdock, kiwi, arnica and quinoa are some that made the cut. One pump distributes enough product for the entire face, and I love how the serum absorbs right in. Skin won’t feel tacky or wet — you can immediately follow with makeup or layer with a moisturizer or sunblock. Plus, its faint floral aroma is so soothing, I find myself going back for second and third sniffs. Or, maybe I should chalk that up to another weird pregnancy craving. I’m giving 2 people the chance to win Double Serum — an $85 value! To enter to win this giveaway: comment on this post, like thebeautygirl.com on facebook or follow me on twitter and RT the message. Good luck!

Curel Skin Nourishing Lotion Review

Here’s a dry skin remedy that will cost you less than $10 and works in less than two weeks – Curel Skin Nourishing Lotion ($7.99). My intern Elizabeth wanted to fix her rough patches, so we decided she should give this shea butter-based product a try. Now she can’t wait for the weather to warm up so she can show off her legs. “My overall skin texture is smoother to my touch, and specifically the areas of dry skin (my elbows and knees) visibly appear less cracked and healthier.” She also found that the formula is gentle enough to use on her face. “I applied a light layer on my face, paying particular attention to the skin above my eyebrows and around my mouth. Within a day, my itchy skin in these areas was gone, and I saw a huge difference in the appearance of my skin,” she said. Another deal breaker is that the lotion doesn’t leave behind a sticky residue or make skin feel greasy. This drugstore buy has earned itself The Beauty Girl stamp of approval.

Spa De Soleil Instant Glow Face Moisturizer Review

Bronzers and self tanners are great for giving the appearance of a sun-kissed face, but they don’t actually work to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. We recently received a sample of Rena Revivo’s Spa De Soleil’s Instant Glow moisturizer ($69.99). Our first time hearing about the product, we didn’t know what to expect. The formula is said to reduce discoloration and soften your skin’s texture with a combination of vitamins, organic oils and amino acids. I applied the Instant Glow to my face and neck in the morning before makeup. It’s a creamy moisturizer and has a subtle sweet smell. For best results, suggested use is a minimum of six weeks. I’m in my fourth week and already my face is softer and I feel like I’m needing less makeup to feel more confident about my complexion. With summer approaching, sheer skin with minimal makeup is the goal. So far, the Instant Glow is proving to be the best product to get me there. posted by Elizabeth

Would You Try The Vampire Facial?

A juicy vampire flick or blood red-lipstick is one thing, but the Vampire Facial takes this fad to a whole new level. Sound a little bizarre? You’re telling us! Available at participating plastic surgeon offices, this $700 treatment used by celebrities, most notably Kim Kardashian, is a cosmetic procedure in which platelet rich plasma (PRP) is extracted from blood taken directly from your arm and re-applied topically onto your face. The gel-like substance is said to boost collagen production and promote new tissue growth, smoothing the skin’s surface and look of fine lines. I’ll be the first to admit the name makes me a little queasy. It doesn’t qualify as cosmetic surgery, but this isn’t your ordinary facial either.

Is this a treatment you'd be willing to brave?

A Household Remedy for Cracked Skin

I used to think the only cure for cracked skin was a heavy helping of moisturizer and a Band-Aid or Saran Wrap to seal in the hydrating ingredients. Then I got this tip from dermatologist Neal Schultz. “If you catch that crack early, apply a few layers of Krazy Glue over it. You’ll get rapid healing and pain relief. And when it’s better, don’t pick off the dried glue; allow it to peel off naturally in one to two weeks.”

Would you try Krazy Glue to repair your cracked skin?

A Dry Skin Cure: One Balm, Endless Possibilities

Short of a magic beauty wand? No problem. Here are a few products that check all the boxes. Liz Earle’s Super Balm Sure, it’s a bit of a splurge ($29), but this balm is a one-stop shop. It can be used anywhere from head to toe to soothe and hydrate. The texture of the balm is a little gritty, similar to a lip scrub, and is made with natural ingredients including Vitamin E, Rosehip Oil and Neroli Oil that give off a pretty strong, but not unpleasant, aroma. I used the Super Balm specifically to target my dry hair and noticed my frizz decrease too. Read More
