A Wink to Eyeko Mascara

There are hundreds of mascaras launched every year and in all my time writing this blog, I’ve only introduced you to a handful. I’m selective. Well, here’s another winner. Eyeko ($19 at Sephora). It comes in two formulas — Skinny (for long and tall lashes) and Curvy (for tips that curl up to the sky). I’m a fan of the jet-black color; it leaves lashes looking like they’ve been tinted, which really brings out my blue eyes. I’ve been using the Skinny formula and am impressed by how long it makes my lashes, plus the brush disperses product evenly. If I had to compare Eyeko to one mascara, I’d say it’s somewhat similar to Blinc. Both of their formulas form a tube around lashes so no flaking or clumping occurs.

Fall’s Best Beauty Trends

The Spring 2013 fashion shows may be coming to close, but we’re just beginning to pull out our fall wardrobes (hello, leather weather). Stash your pastel eyeshadows, coral bullets, and think extremes for this fall’s beauty palette. EYES: black and blue, geometric shapes From the clothes to the makeup, the IT color combo for fall is black and blue. For makeup, the best way to wear this trend is to focus on your eyes. At Giorgio Armani and Anna Sui we saw a unique take on the classic cat eye using these shades. Skip shadow and go straight to liner, which should be drawn in a more geometric shape. To make this eye look wearable for everyday, make a “v” shape by lining half of your top lash line and the outer fourth of your bottom lashline. Define and thicken the “v” in the outside corner. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner and Lancome Le Crayon Khol are solid picks.                         LIPS: bold or bare Read More

Win $202 worth of Le Metier de Beaute Makeup!

I’m usually the one to tell my friends about new beauty products they have to try. The other day, however, I was on the receiving end. My girlfriend discovered Le Metier de Beaute Cosmetics at Neimans and fell in the love with the makeup. She asked me if I’d tried it before, but I hadn’t. Then the stars aligned. The very next day I got an email from the company’s lovely public relations person introducing me to the brand. They sent me a package of products to try — one of the perks of my job. Le Meteir de Beaute is definitely high end. Prices start at $28 for blush and go up from there. The makeup feels, wears and looks like it’s worth every penny, which is why I’m such a fan. The textures are superb, soft and blend beautifully. The makeup is so versatile. I’ve worn it on date night and at my son’s first b-day party. As you know, I love to share my finds with you. So, I’m giving away 5 of my favorite Le Meteir de Beaute products totaling a whopping $202!!! Better yet, 3 people will get to win so spread the word. To find out how to enter this giveaway and see what’s up for grabs… Read More

In Recognition of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

I appreciate that so many beauty brands support various causes. Most donate a portion of  the sales of this or that product to charity. When I found out that Laura Mercier is donating 100 percent of the profits from the sale of  Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face & Cheeks Crème Colour Palette and Rose Hope Lip Glacé to the Laura Mercier Ovarian Cancer Fund, which was unveiled this month, I had to spread the word. Both Laura Mercier and the company’s President and CEO, Claudia Poccia, have been touched by the disease: Laura through a dear friend, and Claudia through her sister. I had to share this as it is such an incredible donation that they’re making.

LAQA & Co. — A Work of Art

I’m jaded. I’ve sent so many beauty products, it takes more than a shiny gold case to get me excited. While I do appreciate pretty packaging (what girl doesn’t. Tiffany blue is a legit color), I’m not a sucker for it. But then LAQA & Co. landed on my desk. The packaging was so cool, I wasn’t in a rush to open the nail polish pens and lip pencils. Each of the boxes feature the designs of new, up-and-coming young artists looking to have their voices heard. The goal is to help the artists get noticed, and they even get a cut of the profits. Love that! Here they are…

I had the chance to interview Private Practice star Kate Walsh, who happens to have her own beauty company. Who knew?! There are a gazillion celebrity fragrances out there, but Kate’s is different. She came up with the idea for her fragrance Billionaire Boyfriend, created her own company and launched the scent this year. I found out what’s really behind the name as well as her other beauty secrets like how she keeps her skin in check after all of those hours on set. Better yet, I’m giving two people the chance to win a bottle of Billionaire Boyfriend ($75). Keep reading to enter the giveaway. Read More
