Looking for some design inspiration? We’ve all been stuck with an empty white wall at one point or another–they beg for a “statement piece.” For me, it was my tiny college dorm room enclosed by white cinderblock walls (oh, the glamour!). Blik self-adhesive wall decals were the answer. Think: chandeliers, olive trees, sock monkeys. I was excited to discover that Blik upped the ante on their wall decals and teamed up with WRAPPED to create large-scale, self-adhesive wallpaper. WRAPPED is known for their fantastic wrapping paper and their designs are now being made into huge Blik decals. The designs are truly a work of art and can cover an entire wall–for less than $100. Check out the awesome Blik x WALLPAPER designs below!

The holiday shopping season is well underway and if you’re like us you’ve got shopping carts started on a few or 12 different sites. Not ready to purchase something, but afraid we’ll forget about it, we toss it in the cart as a bookmark for later. It’s a completely unorganized and inefficient way of doing things, but just in the nick of time we’ve discovered some uber cool apps that make shopping, particularly online shopping, so much easier. And fun, if you could just fathom that.

P.S. Outdoor Hands is offering an exclusive 20% discount when you enter the code “windy city live.” Happy shopping!
Also, we ran out of time for my last solution (such is the reality of live TV), so if you’re in Chicago and need to book a last-minute beauty treatment like a haircut or mani, you can go to prettyquick.com. You enter the service you want and within 5 minutes they’ll send you about 10 different salons and spas that have availability, and you pick the appointment you want to book. How cool!

When I’m on little-to-no sleep, putting on makeup is the last thing I’m in the mood to do. We’ve all been there. But, there are a few products in my stash that I can easily swipe on without paying attention, and they really make me look like I’m in a better state that I actually am. One such savior is Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder. It’s a pink, white, and lilac mosaic that brightens a tired, sallow complexion. I dab on a little concealer under my eyes and at the sides of my nose, and then give my face a generous dusting of the glowy powder. It’s not glittery like Bobbi’s Shimmer Bricks, so you can really just brush it on wherever without the fear of looking too shiny. It’s a trusty little pick-me-up for sluggish days.

Every year, I find myself obsessing over a new item for my wardrobe. This year has been the statement necklace. While a bold bauble completes a look, I couldn’t justify spending hundreds on a piece that is so noticeable, you almost feel like once you’ve been seen in it you can’t wear it again. Then I discovered these gems from t+j designs….
There are hundreds of mascaras launched every year and in all my time writing this blog, I’ve only introduced you to a handful. I’m selective. Well, here’s another winner. Eyeko ($19 at Sephora). It comes in two formulas — Skinny (for long and tall lashes) and Curvy (for tips that curl up to the sky). I’m a fan of the jet-black color; it leaves lashes looking like they’ve been tinted, which really brings out my blue eyes. I’ve been using the Skinny formula and am impressed by how long it makes my lashes, plus the brush disperses product evenly. If I had to compare Eyeko to one mascara, I’d say it’s somewhat similar to Blinc. Both of their formulas form a tube around lashes so no flaking or clumping occurs.
I’m reflecting on the beautiful things I experienced this month and perhaps the most special was Rex’s first birthday party. To up the cuteness factor, his party had a bumblebee theme from the invitations to the party favors. If you’re planning your child’s birthday, here are a few ideas to get you inspired.
I got the invitations on paperculture.com
I’m usually the one to tell my friends about new beauty products they have to try. The other day, however, I was on the receiving end. My girlfriend discovered Le Metier de Beaute Cosmetics at Neimans and fell in the love with the makeup. She asked me if I’d tried it before, but I hadn’t. Then the stars aligned. The very next day I got an email from the company’s lovely public relations person introducing me to the brand. They sent me a package of products to try — one of the perks of my job.
Le Meteir de Beaute is definitely high end. Prices start at $28 for blush and go up from there. The makeup feels, wears and looks like it’s worth every penny, which is why I’m such a fan. The textures are superb, soft and blend beautifully. The makeup is so versatile. I’ve worn it on date night and at my son’s first b-day party. As you know, I love to share my finds with you. So, I’m giving away 5 of my favorite Le Meteir de Beaute products totaling a whopping $202!!! Better yet, 3 people will get to win so spread the word.
