Would You Wear The Latest Celeb Fashion Trend — the “hand bracelet”?

I remember the days of playing Pretty Pretty Princess—whoever stacked up the most jewels by the end of the game was crowned the prettiest princess. Little girls and women alike find ways to ice anything and everything on their bodies. From our crowns and ears, to our necks and fingers, to even our Queen V’s, no area is left unfrosted. But unless you’re a queen, or a 4 year old playing Pretty Pretty Princess, wearing a tiara, 10 rings, 7 cuffs, 3 necklaces and a pair of earrings is just downright tacky. While Kim Kardashian
drips herself in more diamonds in the pursuit of her fairytale ending, us common folk have the celebrity jewelry trend, “hand bracelets,” to keep our princess dreams satiated.

Stars including Katy Perry, Giuliana Rancic and Victoria Justice are adorning their palms with this statement piece by Prive Jewellery (pictured above right), which is a cross between a bracelet cuff and a tiara. And even this past week, Nicole Scherzinger wore an eye-catching hand bracelet on “X Factor.” Would you wear this trend? We want to know. Vote below!  (posted by Cody)

Amazing Fragrance Find

Eau De Nous Perfume Here’s a scent to know about. And I’m not saying this just because it has a huge celebrity following (Demi Moore, Mila Kunis and Hayden Panettiere all own fragrances from the line) or because it’s really affordable. A 3.8 oz full-size bottle is $35 and the travel size (shown below), which I prefer because it has a no-spill roller ball applicator, is only $12.   Eau De Nous travel size fragrance Eau De Nous isn’t over-thought or forced. It’s a series of simple, lovely aromas made by two sisters, Daya and Vally Fernandez, who created a series of scents reminiscent of their childhood. There are 4 in all: Gardenian Gift, which has notes of jasmine, orange and cloves; Bebe Breeze, a mix of rich floral tones like roses and lilies; Citrus Charm, a blend of mandarin and grapefruit essences; and Jasmine Joy, a marriage of honeysuckle, sandalwood and jasmine oil. The perfumes are really wearable and casual enough for everyday. For summer I’m into Gardenian Gift. It’s quiet, floral, and fresh – just what summer should be. P.S. Are You Digging Lauren Conrad’s Tie-Dyed Hair?

This isn’t the first time we’re seeing tie-dyed tips (Niki Minaj turned her mane into a rainbow of colors earlier this year), but Lauren’s take is much more subtle and wearable. Plus, the color is temporary and gets even prettier as it fades out. To create this look, I heard Lauren used Paul Mitchell’s INKWORKS (a professional, semi-permanent color treatment available in 10 shades) to achieve the blue-colored highlights. If you’re interested in giving this trend a try, here are some how-to tips from colorist and Paul Mitchell Artistic Director Lucie Doughty to pass on to your stylist: 1. To get the full effect, have your stylist pre-lighten the hair to a pale blonde by using Paul Mitchell’s Dual Purpose Lightener and then the colorist can apply Paul Mitchell INKWORKS over the top 2. Ask to have INKWORKS painted all the way through the strand or just on the tips like Lauren’s and then isolate each section in foil 3. Countless colors can be created from the Paul Mitchell INKWORKS color collection, so you can decide which color combinations work for you (to get LC’s look ask for Hot Pink, Green and Blue) 4. Your stylist can dilute them with any of Paul Mitchell’s daily conditioners to create beautiful pastel tones (like LC’s!)

makeup primerCall them your biggest nightmare or a godsend. Wherever you stand, there’s no denying that Victoria’s Secret models are a vision. Beauty Giveaway! Win $85 ExfoliKate Face Scrub

ExfoliKate face scrubSnakeskin is sexy. On a handbag or pair of shoes, that is. But when skin’s texture starts to coordinate with accessories, the look becomes downright icky.

The easiest fix for a smoother, brighter complexion is to exfoliate – a fancy word for scrubbing skin.

I first learned about Kate Somerville’s best-selling face scrub back in the glory days of magazines when beauty editors like myself chewed up car services like a pack of gum. At the time, I was working at Shop Etc. magazine, writing a story about celebs’ favorite beauty products. Molly Sims told me hers was Exfolikate, created by esthetician to the stars Kate Somerville (Paula Abdul, Jessica Alba and Paris Hilton are among her many A-list clients). I’m not usually a sucker when it comes to star endorsements, but Molly’s complexion sold me, and I gave it a try.

Expense accounts have since dwindled and Shop Etc. no longer exists (R.I.P.). However, my relationship with Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate has been a fairytale. The formula is as green as the Wicked Witch but don’t be scared. Its powers are all positive. Fruit enzymes like papaya and pineapple eat up dead cells and its got tiny granules that further help to gently polish and soften skin. I recommend using a couple of nights a week after cleansing. Just lightly rub on a thin layer, using circular motions, and rinse off after about twenty or thirty seconds. You’ll be left with the best accessory yet  – a radiant complexion.

Here’s your chance to try it for yourself! I’m giving 3 lucky readers the chance to score this $85 exfoliating treatment.

Trend to Try: Feather Hair Extensions

Adrienne MaloofBeyonceHair bling is so 2010. I first spotted this questionable trend on “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Adrienne Maloof. Then, Oprah had a guest on her show and interrupted the serious interview to ask about the sparkly hair extensions in her guest’s hair. They caught Oprah’s eyes, and suddenly that guest’s smart decision to wear her own product called Hair Flairs on national TV took her business to the next level. Even A-listers like Beyonce have stepped out wearing hair tinsel. The idea of putting shiny adornments in your hair may sound girlie and fun, but unless there’s a fairy princess in your midst or it’s Halloween, sprinkling glitter throughout your strands doesn’t cut it for everyday affairs. Steven TylerHowever, there’s a new twist on this trend that does. Feather extensions are as fresh as Steven Tyler’s comeback and free of cheese factor. Credit West coasters and hipster-filled music festivals like Coachella for putting these plumes into flight. Their popularity has soared this spring and now they’re migrating east. Salons are adding feather clip-ons from popular brands like Featherlocks (click here to find a salon near you), which can be washed, dried, cut, flat-ironed and curled, to their menus. They only take 10 minutes for the stylist to insert, cost about $25 for a set of three, last about eight weeks (most stylists will remove them free of charge), and come in just about every color of the rainbow. For a look that’s cool and fashion-forward but won’t get you called into the boss’s office, my recommendation is to start with earthy shades that blend with your mane and create a peek-a-boo effect every time you flip your hair or catch a gust of wind. Need inspiration? Mr. “American Idol” himself (shown above left), Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hilary Duff (pictured below) highlight three different ways to look good in feathers. Jennifer Love Hewitt Hilary Duff Now that “feathered” hair is back, I asked stylist Joy La Rosa, who works at New York-based Sam Brocato Salon, to offer her tips on what works best for different hair types. If you have short hair: Try more feathers in different places on the head. If you have long hair: Ask for larger clusters of feathers so they don’t get totally lost in your hair. If you have curly hair: Pick a mix of varying lengths, textures and thicknesses such as stripes and solids to help accentuate curls. If you have straight hair: Follow Hilary Duff’s lead. Tame, thin, subtle feathers look best.

Victoria’s Secret New Attractions Fragrances are “EverTempting”

Lindsay EllingsonWhen you have the chance to spend an afternoon with a Victoria’s Secret model, you take it. So, this week I dined at Cibo Matto in The Wit hotel with VS Angel Lindsay Ellingson (documented in the pic below), who was in town for the launch of the brand’s new “Gorgeous” push-up bra. Lindsay is not only stunning, she’s so normal, down-to-earth and easy to talk to. When asked what she does to get her perfect body in shape for the VS fashion show, which happens to be one of the most electric, entertaining spectacles I’ve ever attended, I may have given her a dirty look.

“My biggest issue is that I’m too skinny, so I have to drink lots of protein shakes to get ready for it,” she said. I wanted to call her a biatch in that moment, but the girl is so damn nice, she is yet another example of how Beauty Doesn’t Have to be a Bitch. All I could do was smile, swallow my thoughts and empathize with her inability to grow a muffin top.

During our date, Lindsay introduced me to the newest VS fragrance suite called Attractions. The four body mists, which can be layered, have very different scent profiles. Sweet Craving is like inhaling a bowl of vanilla creme brulee, Wild One is slighlty floral, Glam Goddess smells fresh and clean, and Love Bitten is woodsy with a hint of apple.

But it’s not the aromas that are memorable. They’re made with a secret cocktail of notes referred to as EverTempt, which is supposed to have pheremone-like powers. Apparently, the perfumers at Victoria’s Secret tested hundreds of scent combinations until they found the one blend that lured in men time and time again. So, the next time you’re on the prowl, perhaps you should give yourself a mist. This just may turn out to be your lucky juice.

Top Tips for Curly Hair

Last week I had tea at the Peninsula with famed hairstylist Ouidad (that’s us posing for the picture!), the queen of the curly hair revolution. The founder of her eponymous salons and haircare line specifically targeted to nourish and treat our kinks, Ouidad firmly believes women should embrace their natural bends. “There’s so much you can do with curly hair!,” she says. Although the surge of flat irons and chemical straightening treatments wiped out waves in the 90s, glamorous curls are back, dominating everything from the red carpet (see Natalie Portman’s romantic Oscar hair) to the runway as seen at the Alice + Olivia spring fashion show.curly hair

Being a curly-haired girl myself, I understand how this texture can be intimidating and unpredictable to work with because you never know exactly how your spirals will look from one day to the next. Not to mention, the majority of stylists don’t know how to properly cut or style curls so they end up doing a blow out instead. I asked Ouidad for her tips on how to get the right cut and how to handle your hair at home.

The Right Cut

1. Find a hairdresser with curly hair because they’ll innately know the quarks of curls.

2. Before allowing the professional to cut your hair, find out his or her approach. A razor cut is a big no-no for this texture because it will thin the hair and create frizz.

3. Make sure the stylist cuts locks when wet, not dry, because this is when curls are in their most natural state.

Handle Curls At Home

1. A weekly deep conditioning treatment is the single most important thing you can do for your curls. “It’s like food for the hair,” says Ouidad, who adds that this is the key to eliminating frizz and moisturizing your mane so it looks shiny. Ouidad’s Deep Treatment Intensive Conditioner is a good option because it’s free of heavy oils like shea butter, which can weigh down hair.

2. Only wash hair twice it week. This will help keep curly hair, which is naturally dry, hydrated.

3. To keep curls intact while you sleep, gently gather hair into a bun on the top of your head and secure with a loose scrunchie.

4. When it comes to styling, ditch the brush. Rather, place fingers into sections of hair and softly rake them through to loosen the curls.

Get Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Looks

At the 2011 Academy Awards, the most exciting part of the exuberant Anne Hathaway’s go at the hosting gig was her record breaking 7 dress, hair and makeup changes (not including her pre- and post- show looks). From belting out a tune to changing costumes in as few as seven minutes, this year’s Oscars felt more like Anne’s fashion/broadway moment than a salute to the movies. While I could have done without the broadway bit, I did look forward to seeing each of the star’s transformations after the commercial breaks. Each one was better than the next, thanks to her stylist Rachel Zoe and Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee. From smoky eyes to dark lips, there were looks for everyone. Click through the slideshow to see which of Anne’s Oscar styles you like best and find out which products and application techniques her makeup artist used so you can recreate your favorites looks at home.

Red Carpet Look

The makeup for Anne’s Red Valentino Couture Archive Dress was simple and definitive. The eyes had a thin black line with a defined socket and a deep rose lip stain.

Note: Kate used By Terry Rose salve in between changes to remove Anne’s lipstick and keep her lips fresh.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Foundation: CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide (used throughout show). Concelear: Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light (used throughout show). Powder: Cle de Peau Loose Translucent powder (used throughout show).

Cheek: CHANEL Powder Blush in Fandango (used throughout the show). To define cheek bones, Kate used Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium.

Eyes: Black line created with Bobbi Brown Long Wearing Gel Liner in Black Ink and socket defined with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth.

Brow: Lightened eyebrows with Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette and filled gaps in with Anastasia long wearing brow tint in Universal Dark.

Lips: CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli. To create the matte lip look, Kate applied the color and then powered lips.

Show Look #1

For Anne’s Givenchy Cream Dress with diamond details, Kate kept her makeup understated with a bold line and youthful lip.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Eyes: Kate used Bobbi Brown Long Wearing Gel Liner in Black Ink to create a thick liner. She then applied false lashes (Diamante Lash clusters) that she jazzed up by hand applying little diamond-like jewels on top of the lashes to give them sparkle.

Lips: Cle de Peau Lipstick in T1

Show Look #2

The Lavin Tuxedo paired with sparkly heels was one of my favorite outfits of the night. It was fresh, unpredictable and sexy.

Here’s how to recreate this look.

Eyes: Going for a Sophia Loren style eyeliner, Kate applied liner under the eye with Bobbi Brown Cake Eye Liner in Black. She then lined the inside of the eye with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Clair and continued to the outside outer eye corners to enhance the separation of upper and lower lash line.

Lips: CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Evasion

Show Look #3

The perfect match for this Vivienne Westwood black and white gown is a bright lip.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Eyes: Kate went bold with mascara applying CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara Noir on Anne’s bottom lashes

Lips: For Anne’s moist pink lip, Kate slicked on CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Romance.

Show Look #4

Anne glowed in this Oscar de la Renta Metallic Fringe dress.

Eye: Kate dabbed NARS Soft Shadow Pencil in Hollywood in the inner corner of the eye.

Lips: NARS Lipstick in Promiscuous gave Anne her warm glowing lip look.

Show Look #5

This amazing Atelier Versace wine colored dress got little face time on the broadcast so Anne made up for it wearing it as her encore dress at the after party.

Lips: Kate went for a subtle blushed glossy lip applying NARS Lip Gloss in Belize.

Show Look #6

This Armani Prive reflective column dress is an attention getter, deservedly so.

Eyes: CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir added to inner upper and lower lids.

Lips: The stars of this makeup performance are Anne’s bold bright matte lips, created with
CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Insolente.

Show Look #7

For the finale, Anne dazzled in this Tom Ford Broken Mirror Dress.

Eyes: To create a glossy smokey eye, Kate swiped on the darkest charcoal color from the Ombres Perlees de CHANEL palette and blended it from lash line to socket. Lastly, she refreshed the black liner in the waterline of the eye.

Lips: To balance the deep eye, Anne wore a sexy nude lip with Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick in Blush Nude.
