The Beauty Girl Interview on Spring Beauty Trends

Nordstrom BeautyI, along with about 1,500 women, visited Nordstroms this weekend to check out the department store’s annual Spring Cosmetics Trend Show. Women got to experience beauty services like makeup application and brow shaping while seeing the latest new products from all the beauty brands. During my visit, I caught up with Clarins Artistic Director and International Makeup Trainer Eric Antoniotti, who clued us in to some of spring’s essentials. Nicole Pearl The Beauty GirlBetween the noisy crowd, Eric’s sexy accent and the first-time camera woman who helped us get this interview, some of the info. may have gotten lost in translation. Just in case, I’ve included the highlights below. Clarins lipstick, foundation and anti aging serumEric’s Spring Essentials:1. Tangerine lips are huge for spring. Clarins lipstick in Coral Tulip #116 is a very wearable coral shade. 2. “Your foundation should like a second skin,” says Eric. His pick is Clarins Skin Illusion Natural Radiance Foundation SPF 10. 3. To treat fine lines, Eric loves Clarins Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate. “You can apply before or after your makeup to fine lines around your eyes, mouth and forehead.”

Get Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Looks

At the 2011 Academy Awards, the most exciting part of the exuberant Anne Hathaway’s go at the hosting gig was her record breaking 7 dress, hair and makeup changes (not including her pre- and post- show looks). From belting out a tune to changing costumes in as few as seven minutes, this year’s Oscars felt more like Anne’s fashion/broadway moment than a salute to the movies. While I could have done without the broadway bit, I did look forward to seeing each of the star’s transformations after the commercial breaks. Each one was better than the next, thanks to her stylist Rachel Zoe and Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee. From smoky eyes to dark lips, there were looks for everyone. Click through the slideshow to see which of Anne’s Oscar styles you like best and find out which products and application techniques her makeup artist used so you can recreate your favorites looks at home.

Red Carpet Look

The makeup for Anne’s Red Valentino Couture Archive Dress was simple and definitive. The eyes had a thin black line with a defined socket and a deep rose lip stain.

Note: Kate used By Terry Rose salve in between changes to remove Anne’s lipstick and keep her lips fresh.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Foundation: CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Limpide (used throughout show). Concelear: Kanebo Brush Type Concealer in CB 1 Light (used throughout show). Powder: Cle de Peau Loose Translucent powder (used throughout show).

Cheek: CHANEL Powder Blush in Fandango (used throughout the show). To define cheek bones, Kate used Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium.

Eyes: Black line created with Bobbi Brown Long Wearing Gel Liner in Black Ink and socket defined with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Truth.

Brow: Lightened eyebrows with Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette and filled gaps in with Anastasia long wearing brow tint in Universal Dark.

Lips: CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rivoli. To create the matte lip look, Kate applied the color and then powered lips.

Show Look #1

For Anne’s Givenchy Cream Dress with diamond details, Kate kept her makeup understated with a bold line and youthful lip.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Eyes: Kate used Bobbi Brown Long Wearing Gel Liner in Black Ink to create a thick liner. She then applied false lashes (Diamante Lash clusters) that she jazzed up by hand applying little diamond-like jewels on top of the lashes to give them sparkle.

Lips: Cle de Peau Lipstick in T1

Show Look #2

The Lavin Tuxedo paired with sparkly heels was one of my favorite outfits of the night. It was fresh, unpredictable and sexy.

Here’s how to recreate this look.

Eyes: Going for a Sophia Loren style eyeliner, Kate applied liner under the eye with Bobbi Brown Cake Eye Liner in Black. She then lined the inside of the eye with CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Clair and continued to the outside outer eye corners to enhance the separation of upper and lower lash line.

Lips: CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Evasion

Show Look #3

The perfect match for this Vivienne Westwood black and white gown is a bright lip.

Here’s how to recreate the look.

Eyes: Kate went bold with mascara applying CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara Noir on Anne’s bottom lashes

Lips: For Anne’s moist pink lip, Kate slicked on CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Lip Colour in Romance.

Show Look #4

Anne glowed in this Oscar de la Renta Metallic Fringe dress.

Eye: Kate dabbed NARS Soft Shadow Pencil in Hollywood in the inner corner of the eye.

Lips: NARS Lipstick in Promiscuous gave Anne her warm glowing lip look.

Show Look #5

This amazing Atelier Versace wine colored dress got little face time on the broadcast so Anne made up for it wearing it as her encore dress at the after party.

Lips: Kate went for a subtle blushed glossy lip applying NARS Lip Gloss in Belize.

Show Look #6

This Armani Prive reflective column dress is an attention getter, deservedly so.

Eyes: CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir added to inner upper and lower lids.

Lips: The stars of this makeup performance are Anne’s bold bright matte lips, created with
CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Insolente.

Show Look #7

For the finale, Anne dazzled in this Tom Ford Broken Mirror Dress.

Eyes: To create a glossy smokey eye, Kate swiped on the darkest charcoal color from the Ombres Perlees de CHANEL palette and blended it from lash line to socket. Lastly, she refreshed the black liner in the waterline of the eye.

Lips: To balance the deep eye, Anne wore a sexy nude lip with Tom Ford Private Blend Lipstick in Blush Nude.

2011 Oscar’s Best Beauty Looks

The 83rd Academy Awards show was a snooze, but the Red Carpet was on fire with the fashion and beauty. Got a favorite celebrity look? Here’s how to recreate some of the best of the night. Cate Blanchett Cate BlanchettInspiration: Celeb makeup artist Robin Fredriksz used icy tones to complement Cate’s lavender Givenchy Couture gown that proved to be a work of art. Makeup: First, Cate used SK-II’s mask, under eye pads (one of my must haves) and moisturizer to hydrate and prep her skin. For makeup, Robin applied all Lancome products. She started with Teint Miracle Lit-from-Within Foundation. To create a defined yet soft smoky eye, she covered the entire lid with Color Design Eye Shadow in Latte and swiped Color Design Eye Shadow in Volanco in the crease. Then, she used Color Design Eye Shadow in Ciel du Soir as a liner, applying it along the upper and lower lash lines. After a few coats of mascara Robin finished the look by giving Cate a pretty, light lip with Color Design Lipcolor in Pale Lip.

Mandy MooreInspiration: “We wanted her makeup to have a strong pop,” said celeb makeup artist Kayleen McAdams about Mandy’s red carpet lips. “I was so inspired by all the coral and orange lips on the runway for spring so I did a tangerine version on the lips and cheeks.” Makeup: Mandy wore all Nars makeup. Kayleen started with Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer, which is new for spring, to ensure Mandy’s makeup would last the evening and then applied Sheer Matte Foundation. It sounds cliché, but the star’s skin was glowing. That’s in thanks to another new product launching this spring — Copacabana Illuminator. For the eyes, Kayleen applied Corfu Cream Eyeshadow and Coconut Grove Single Eyeshadow and finished by coating lashes with a volumizing mascara. For me, the highlight of Mandy’s makeup was her incredible tangerine lip — this season’s hottest lip color. She is a shining example of how to successfully rock this trend. To get this lip look, swipe on Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square. Natalie PortmanInspiration: The strategy behind Oscar winner Natalie Portman’s makeup was as simple and effortless as she looked. “I was inspired by her dress so I went with more purple tones,” said makeup artist Eileen Kastner-Delago.Makeup: Decked in Dior makeup, Natalie had flawless looking skin. She wore a combo of foundations (Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Foundation #020 and #030) as well as Diorskin Nude Hydrating Concealer #002. To play up her eyes and off her plum dress, Eileen applied a mix of shadows: Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in #546 Gold Touch, Dior 2-Colour Eyeshadow in Purple Look #885 and Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Extase Pinks #804. To create Natalie’s fluttery, long lashes, Eileen doubled up on mascaras, swiping on Diorshow Waterproof Mascara in Black and Diorshow Iconic Mascara in Navy Blue. Next, her cheeks were dusted with DiorBlush in Peechy Keen #553. To finish the look, Natalie had a glossy, sexy lip created with Dior Addict Lipstick #623 Infamous Pink and topped with Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Apricot Cloche #436.

The Beauty Girl’s Best Time-Saving Beauty Secrets

No one needs to know you’re tired, have a zit or fine lines. Do what the celeb makeup artists do for their clients: conceal and highlight. Lorac Double Feature is an amazing two-in-one, and I love the blender ball on top.

Hair accesssories beef up a busted ponytail. L. Erickson headbands are especially chic and you can see all the styles on www.franceluxe.com

Screw nail polish remover. Sula polish looks great, saves time and is so fun to peel off, it’s addicting!

Bootie Pies are one of my favorite inventions. They’re so comfy and practical for pedicures because they let you skip the drying time.

I’m a huge fan of Clarins skincare and love that it’s so natural. Some of my must haves are the The Beauty Flash Balm, Body Treatment Oil (the brand’s #1 seller)  and Stretch Mark Control, which any pregnant woman will appreciate.

Like Clarins, Phyto haircare is based in naturals and its formulas actually work. Highlights are the Phytovolumactiv volumizing spray, a hairstylist staple backstage at fashion week, Phytocyane treatment, which was developed to help peeps like pregnant women who experience temporary hair loss post delivery, and the Phytodefrisant relaxing balm, which squashes frizz to give you a beautiful blowout

Berry lipstick = facestick. Wear a berry shade on your lips, cheeks and lids. Clinique Butter Shine lipstick in raspberry rush, which was in all of the gift bags, is a pretty example of this hue.

When you’re too tired to wash up, wipe away makeup, oil and the day’s grit with makeup remover wipes. Stash them on your nightstand.

Quick fixes like the Goody Spin Pin and dry shampoo like Suave’s new one, which is only $3, will save you from a bad hair day.

Me with my amazing co-host Lindsay, founder of The Bump Club

Lots of mingling and smiling going on.

Whether you were preggars, single or a mom, there was something to eat and drink for everyone.

Filling up on delicious eats including sushi, grilled cheese, mini gourmet burgers, tacos, and more, thanks to Hub 51.

Guests enjoying manis from Exhale.

Exhale also provided brow shaping services.

Everyone got to unwind with amazing hand massages and neck lifts from Tina, a Clarins skincare specialist.

We had about 100 women come to Sub 51 at Hub 51 for Girl’s Night Out.

That’s me about to share my time-saving beauty secrets.

Raffle prize winner showing off the hundreds of dollars worth of Phtyo haircare products she’s going home with.

Come to our Girl’s Night Out event and you may leave with a $300 black Furla bag like our winner here.

Yeah for Jaclyn, who won a 1-month membership to Exhale.

We’re all smiles for the winner of $500 worth of Clarins products that includes a full skincare regimen, makeup and body products.

Perfect timing! The winner of the $600 Bugaboo stroller is about to pop.

Congrats to Lauren, who won a basket of treats including dry shampoos, cleansing wipes and a book.

Yes, that’s my hand reaching in for the insanely yummy Crumbs cupcake.

All guests left with $200+ of goodies in reusable gift bags.
